Welcome to Councils, Summits, and Courts! During your weekend, you will all experience simulations far different from any that you have previously encountered. My name is Jeff Morshed, and I am the USG of Councils, Summits, and Courts. I am very excited to be working with all of you, especially having been in this organ this past NAIMUN serving as a crisis manager. Alongside me is Sohini Sircar, the dUSG of this organ. We are both rising sophomores in the School of Foreign Service. Together, we will be working to ensure that as you all as delegate have the best in-committee experience possible.

Here in Councils, Summits, and Courts, we have seven committees, each simulating an important aspect of the United Nations or the world at large. Dialogue in the world, whether be it in legal or diplomatic affairs, occurs in various settings. We will explore the world of Councils, specifically a present day and a historical simulation of the United Nations Security Council, where countries will debate about crucial issues regularly covered in the news or issues that took place in the past yet still affect the world today. We will also partake in Summits, such as the Mecca Summit of 2007 and the Partition of India in 1947, which will focus on the distinct problems certain regions of the world faced and the difficulties encountered in conflict resolution. Finally, we will participate in various Courts, including the United States Supreme Court, European Court of Human Rights, and a United States Army Court Martial of the My Lai Massacre, which all exhibit different methods of debate and legal argumentation to effectively resolve disputes.
