Welcome to the Economic and Social Councils (ECOSOCs)! ECOSOCs are devoted to the discussion and resolution of both issues involving economic and financial situations, as well as those regarding the social conditions under which much of the population of the world resides. These units are combined, as social problems can often be traced to economic routes and economic problems often have social routes. This year's NAIMUN will address these issues in a way that reflects this interrelated nature. My name is Hijab Shah and I am the USG for this organ, along side Jason Kestecher the dUSG.
In the ECOSOCs this year, The World Bank will coordinate with the UN Committee for Sustainable Development as a vivid illustration of this connection. Other committees such as the International Committee for the Red Cross will meet to discuss the problems that face humanitarian crises that emerge all too often. The International Olympic Committee will simulate the selection of an olympic host city, a lighter, yet still important decision. With seven committees to offer, the Economic and Social Organ offers a wide variety of important topics that face the world today.
Sincerely,
Hijab Shah
