Dear Advisors, Delegates, and Friends of NAIMUN,
Greetings from Washington, D.C.! As the Secretary-General and Executive Director of NAIMUN LX, we cannot wait to welcome you to the 60th iteration of the North American Invitational Model United Nations, held at the Washington Hilton from February 16th - February 19th, 2023. We hope to innovate and expand on the premier Model United Nations conference that you have all come to know very well. NAIMUN is well known for its substantive excellence, academic rigor, and educational programming, all things we hope to continue and build on in its 60th year. NAIMUN will host delegates from across the U.S. and the world in over forty groundbreaking, innovative, and rewarding committees.
Our entire staff is incredibly passionate about making this the best NAIMUN possible for all of you. Through participating in high-level debate, starting engaging dialogues through speakers and panels, and exploring the nation’s capital, we hope that delegates will find this conference instrumental in igniting their curiosity for international affairs. All of our 250+ Georgetown University undergraduate staffers share in our dedication to educate the next generation of global leaders, and we will work as hard as we can to equip the 3,300+ high school delegates with a robust educational experience.
After every year, we review all of the feedback we received from advisors and delegates and adjust next year’s conference in order to make quality improvements. This year, we are focusing on three goals of improvement for NAIMUN LX:
Substantive Impact
NAIMUN LX is excited to expose delegates to a variety of international issues and developments that span region and time. We aim for our committees to show delegates how individual, non-state, state, and supranational actors can work with different types of power and agency to fight collectively for human rights, peace and security, and legitimate and responsive institutions. NAIMUN LX should give delegates an experience to think critically, research deeply, and act intentionally, on facts, facets, and perspectives of international crises, in the context of Model UN, diplomacy, negotiation, and global governance. Through actively focusing on the substantive impact that NAIMUN can have on a delegate, we hope to transform how delegates perceive empathy, advocacy, and diplomacy as a means of collective action and problem-solving by the end of the conference weekend.
Accessibility
The Conference Executives strive to make NAIMUN LX as accessible as possible. To celebrate NAIMUN’s diamond jubilee, we are excited to expand our robust NAIMUNAid program. Additionally, we plan to continue the tradition of offering free transportation to Friday morning programming, as well as circulating buses, so that financial costs aren’t prohibiting any attendee from taking advantage of the historic sites Washington, D.C. has to offer. We are also excited to implement a Delegate’s Community Closet, a free resource for delegates who may not have access to Western Business Attire. NAIMUN should be an opportunity to learn and grow, and economic status should never be a barrier to having an educational, fun experience. NAIMUN’s Director of Logistics and Security will be ensuring that any requested accommodations due to disability are met. By reaching out to schools from historically underrepresented areas, it is our hope that improving the accessibility of NAIMUN will allow even more schools to partake in this educational opportunity.
Delegate Experience
NAIMUN has always prided itself on being more than just a Model United Nations conference. At its core, it is a comprehensive learning experience for delegates. Through a dedicated and passionate staff, invigorating committees, and continuing our NAIMUN Training and Immersion Program (or, NAIMUN TIPs), we aim to create a stimulating committee experience. Additionally, because of NAIMUN LX’s unique location in the heart of Washington D.C., delegates have the opportunity to hear from professionals, learn from international advocates, visit embassies, and experience international affairs in the nation’s capital. Through this commitment to an integrated weekend, delegates will realize that the voices they build in committee can and will make a difference in the international community as they grow into global leaders.
We appreciate your continued dedication to the conference and for putting your trust in us. Our passion and love for NAIMUN know no bounds, and we could not be more excited to create the best experience possible.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns regarding the upcoming conference, please do not hesitate to contact us.
