Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC)
APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 160 single delegations
The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program is a partnership of countries and development institutions, led primarily by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), that promotes economic growth, trade, and regional connectivity across Central and West Asia. CAREC’s main objectives include improving transport links, energy cooperation, trade facilitation, and economic coordination among participating countries.
Topic A will balance political expression and stability in Central Asian Economies. As Central Asia continues to develop as one of the fastest-growing regions globally, countries that emerged from the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) face ongoing challenges in balancing political expression with maintaining state stability and governance. Governments must manage public discourse, civic participation, and dissent while addressing concerns about institutional trust and social order. These tensions are shaped by varying political systems across, requiring delegates to consider approaches that carefully balance political inclusion with security, institutional reinforcement, and gradual reforms. Topic B will see delegates evaluating tourism and cultural infrastructure in Central Asia. Central Asia is increasingly positioning itself as a global tourism destination through investments in cultural heritage preservation, infrastructure development, and regional connectivity. This growth is supported by the region’s historical legacy along the Silk Road and rising international interest in its cultural diversity. However, uneven infrastructure development and limited global visibility continue to constrain tourism growth in several areas. Delegates will discuss possible solutions, including strengthening transportation networks, expanding hospitality services, and improving cultural promotion strategies to enhance competitiveness and support deeper integration into global tourism markets.
