OVERVIEW

mid-sized general assembly-style committees (100-160 delegates)

Economic & Social Councils (ECOSOCs) are mid-sized General Assembly-style committees which simulate national bodies, regional organizations, UN conventions, and other commissions of similar size. These committees, which contain between 80 and 160 delegates, primarily focus on economic, social, and cultural issues. In ECOSOCs, delegates represent countries, ministers, or members of parliament, and seek to craft cooperative resolutions to pressing global and regional issues.

Ethan Brady & Allie Liu

About Ethan

Ethan Brady is a member of the Class of 2028 in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He is majoring in Regional and Comparative Studies with a minor in French. Born in Dublin, Ethan then had the very jarring experience of spending the last ten years in Miami, Florida. After joining Model UN in Sophomore year of high school, Ethan was able to have the pleasure of participating in conferences across the country and chair his high schools local competition.

This will be Ethan's third NAIMUN, participating in his senior year as a delegate in (the now deceased) British House of Commons, and serving as Director for the Committee for Social Development in his Freshman Year. Both of these experiences in ECOSOCs at NAIMUN were the motivation for joining the NAIMUN secretariat this year, as he hopes to help shape a similar experience for the delegates at LXIII.

Outside of Model UN, you can find him working behind the register at Hoya Snaxa, researching a paper for the Institute of Global Politics, or nursing a mystery injury received during a rugby match. During the freakishly large amount of free time he has, you can find him trying to find new music for the next time he's on aux or taking a 4 hour nap after his 10am french class.

Ethan is incredibly excited to serve as USG for ECOSOCs at NAIMUN LXIII and looks forward to working with a dedicated team to craft engaging, substantive committees. He’s honored to help continue the legacy of NAIMUN and can’t wait to see the creativity and diplomacy this year’s delegates bring to the table.

About Allie

Allie Liu is a member of the Class of 2028 in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, majoring in Business and Global Affairs with a minor in Public Health. A Maryland native, Allie started Model UN as a freshman in high school and has since hosted her high school’s student run conference, attended conferences in the DMV region (including NAIMUN!), and more.

Besides competing on Georgetown’s Model UN team and NAIMUN, Allie does data analytics and consulting for local groups and businesses as a member of Hoyalytics, edits blogs for the Georgetown Undergraduate Law Review, does independent research on campus, and can be found cafe/restaurant hopping and updating her Beli on weekends.

Allie attended NAIMUN in high school and decided to join as a staffer this past year. Previously, Allie staffed as a dais member for an ECOSOC, and has returned this year as one of the organ’s under secretary generals so she can continue to cultivate the unforgettable learning experience NAIMUN is for delegates.

Allie is so excited to serve as one of your Under Secretary Generals of ECOSOCs for NAIMUN LXIII, and hopes to engage delegates of various perspectives in rigorous debate to brainstorm solutions for some of the most pressing issues facing real regional and international bodies. Throughout the weekend, she hopes delegates are able to learn and grow from each other’s creativity, and that participants will utilize compassion and well-grounded research to break past international borders and have productive sessions. Allie can’t wait to meet everyone at NAIMUN LXIII and to share an unforgettable conference experience together!
