NAIMUN LXIII Theme:
Innovate, Implement, Inspire
Our theme for NAIMUN LXIII is “Innovate, Implement, Inspire.” After much reflection about where we are and where we are going as a conference, we have meticulously chosen a theme that we believe best encapsulates our goals for the conference and how we will be pushing NAIMUN beyond its existing boundaries. We fervently believe in the power of Model UN to generate critical ideas and encourage delegates to engage directly with global issues. Our goal this year is for students to take their ideas and skills acquired in committee and find applications outside of the enclosed committee environment. Through the in-committee and out-of-committee programs, we hope to not only challenge delegates to be forward-thinking and be problem solvers, but to also leverage their diplomacy skills to imagine an ideal world and to take an active role in being the change they want to see.
Our Theme In Committee
As conference execs, we strive to provide delegates with an in-committee experience unique to the Model UN circuit. NAIMUN prides itself on curating committees that are informative, unique, and fun; we hope each delegate walks out of their last committee session having learned something new. We push for both delegates and staffers alike to truly immerse themselves in the topics being debated. Committee session is a learning experience, where delegates get to explore the nuances of international relations and practice their diplomacy skills in real time. Diplomacy is about a willingness to learn, to adapt, and to collaborate with others, and committee is a place where delegates can learn to do all of these. We believe that NAIMUN is a place where delegates can build upon what they have learned in the classroom by exploring a diverse slate of topics curated to teach each and every delegate. Committee speakers invited to speak during committee sessions also give delegates a chance to engage with someone actively involved in the topic being debated. Said speakers show delegates why the topics they debate matter and reinforce our commitment to educating delegates to become future leaders.
Our Theme Out of Committee
Outside of the committee room, NAIMUN LXIII will implement a number of new programs aimed to increase the accessibility of the conference to bring as many new perspectives to the conference and share the conference’s mission for cultivating diplomacy. We hope to extend our theme prior to the conference and at the conference. Whether it is by reading the carefully curated background guides from our Georgetown staffers or by participating in TIPS sessions in the fall, NAIMUN consistently provides a wealth of information that delegates can take advantage of. As part of our commitment to accessibility, NAIMUN LXIII has intentional registration and financial assistance processes designed to ensure efficiency and equity to help as many schools as possible.
Additionally at the conference, NAIMUN LXIII provides numerous out-of-committee educational opportunities during the conference weekend that we hope delegates will take advantage of. On Thursday afternoons, delegates are encouraged to attend MUN 101, where they can learn Parliamentary and Crisis Committee procedures from our Secretary-General, Director General, and USGs. Furthermore, during Friday Morning Programming, delegates are offered the unique opportunity to explore Washington D.C.’s best embassies and tourist destinations. To top it all off, NAIMUN LXIII will continue its annual tradition of partnering with a non-profit organization all weekend. Delegates are encouraged to buy CandyGrams, attend the Saturday Social Justice Event, and engage in conversation with our NGO partners about the non-profit and philanthropy experience!
Innovation, Implementation, and Inspiration Beyond NAIMUN
NAIMUN LXIII is centered on three pillars: Innovate, Implement, Inspire. As a conference, NAIMUN is designed to be a catalyst for delegates, encouraging growth and transformation. Our goal is to integrate this theme into the substantive quality, philanthropy, and programming of the conference to help students develop a passion for diplomacy. We hope the conference provides delegates with memorable experiences, stimulating knowledge, and useful skills to carry beyond the conference. At the end of the day, NAIMUN is so much more than a Model UN conference. We firmly believe in the impact of exploring the world and engaging with a diverse array of communities and perspectives–a feature unique to the magnitude and quality of NAIMUN. This impact extends beyond the four days at the Washington Hilton. We recognize the delegates who attend NAIMUN will be the ones to go on to become the next generation of world leaders, government officials, scientists, journalists, and so much more. By intentionally picking a conference theme in the active tense, we hope delegates embrace the call to action to imagine a better world in all aspects of their life. No matter the path, NAIMUN prides itself for whatever role it plays motivating delegates to innovate solutions to the challenges of the world, implement their ideas with meaning and empathy, and inspire delegates to make change.
