Group of 77 (G77)

APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 70 double delegations

The Group of 77 (G77) is the largest intergovernmental coalition of developing countries within the United Nations, formed in 1964 to promote collective economic interests and enhance joint negotiating capacity on major international issues. While the name reflects its 77 founding members, the group has grown to encompass over 130 countries, representing a wide range of development trajectories, regional alliances, and political priorities. As a powerful bloc in global economic discussions, the G77 has historically advocated for fairer trade, technology transfer, climate justice, and the reform of international financial institutions. In a rapidly changing global order marked by digital exploitation, postcolonial economic structures, and rising protectionism, the G77 must reconcile internal diversity while advancing a unified agenda for equitable development.
