Ad hoc Committee of the Director-General

APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 25 delegates

In both national and international Model United Nations circuits, the Ad Hoc committees are renowned for the skills, knowledge, and quick thinking they demand. At NAIMUN, the Ad Hoc Committee of the Director-General brings the most competitive and experienced crisis delegates together to compete in a simulation designed to challenge them.

This “Non-Traditional” crisis committee will test the depth and breadth of delegates' skills by having two additional twists. The first is that the topic for this committee will be withheld until the start of the first committee session. The second twist is that students will not receive their position briefs or assignments until then.

This procedure will force delegates to showcase their critical thinking, adaptability, creativity, and resourcefulness at the highest stage in North America — if they accept the challenge.

Note: Given the ad hoc nature of the committee, it is recommended that all delegates have previous experience in crisis committees. Delegates will not be required to submit their position paper beforehand, and the use of technology in the room will be at the chair’s discretion.

About the Chair

Caroline Dupas is a member of the Walsh School of Foreign Service’s class of 2027, studying International Politics with a concentration in International Law and minors in History and WGST. She is originally from Pearl River, New York, but has loved spending these past four years in Washington, D.C. Here at Georgetown, Model UN is a tremendous part of Caroline’s life, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She is the current Head Delegate of Georgetown’s Model UN team (the highest scoring one in the world right now!), and will have traveled to 35+ collegiate conferences by the time she graduates and competed in all types of committees (but especially loves Ad Hocs!). For GIRA, the parent organization in charge of all of our conferences, Caroline also currently serves as Chief Operating Officer, managing the legal and day-to-day business of running a non-profit in college. She also spent last year as the Secretary-General of NCSC, NAIMUN’s sister conference for college students. Outside of Model UN (if one can conceptualize such a sad thing), Caroline is applying to law school, writing an honors thesis on gender apartheid, and hanging out with friends!
