The Football War, 1969 - Federación Nacional de Agricultores y Ganaderos de Honduras (FENA-GH)
APPROXIMATE COMMITTEE SIZE: 25 delegates
At this point in time, the working class of Honduras is under extreme social, economic, and political pressure. With an immigration crisis from El Salvador threatening their jobs and living conditions, farmers, workers, and others are struggling to effectively unify their voices and channel their concerns. As Honduras’ upper-class-dominated government goes about economic and security decisions, it’s imperative that the country’s broad intersection of farmers and workers are able to make their voices heard and see their inputs affect real change. At the same time, they must also decide on pressure tactics and shows of resistance in case the ruling class pushes back.
CRISIS MANAGER: Ethan Lu
CHAIR: Luke Castro
ISSUES TO CONSIDER
Unifying the Working Class
Balancing Diplomacy with Protest
Responding to Increased Immigration
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Effectively unify and channel the sentiments of Honduran landowners and workers.
Help shape government policy, through both conciliatory and confrontational methods.
Consider alliances with other nearby conglomerates of working-class individuals.
About the Chair
Luke Castro is a member of Georgetown University’s class of 2027 studying in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in both Government and Economics. He is from Fairfax, Virginia, and began his interest in Model UN in his junior year of high school when he attended NAIMUN that year with his high school delegation. He has been doing Model UN ever since including with Georgetown’s own Model UN team and also staffed last year’s NAIMUN. Besides Model UN, Luke is a member of Georgetown’s Philodemic Society and does volunteer work at the Georgetown Center for Social Justice, especially with HOMES. He hopes that his experience in both the delegate and staffer side as well as his love for the practice of Model UN makes this committee a great experience for all delegates.
