The World Bank is an international financial institution that provides financial support, policy advice, and project-based investments to reduce poverty and foster sustainable economic development, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Topic A will examine the global implications of dollar hegemony. Delegates will consider how this impacts global markets and financial independence, particularly in developing economies, and explore possible reforms to increase monetary diversity. Topic B will focus on fostering economic growth in regions highly affected by climate change or environmental fragility. Delegates will discuss how to fund sustainable industries, build resilient infrastructure, and ensure inclusive growth without sacrificing ecological balance.

Ashley Sorato is a member of the class of 2027 majoring in Global Business and pursuing a minor in Technology, Ethics, and Society. Previously, she served as a USG for Contemporary Crisis for NAIMUN LXII, but competes in General Assemblies for the Georgetown collegiate Model UN team! In her free time, she likes to play mixes on her DJ board, listen to music, and try new restaurants. She is extremely excited to meet all of you as your World Bank Co-Chair, and see what ideas you all come up with! Maggie Yang is a member of the class of 2027 majoring in Regional and Comparative Studies (U.S. and Asia) and pursuing a certificate in International Business Diplomacy. Previously, she served as Director of Business and Advancement for NAIMUN LXII, and was also a former crisis analyst for JCC: Boxer Rebellion in NAIMUN LXI! In her free time, she likes to try new cuisines, play chess, and go on long hikes. She is extremely excited to work with all of you as your World Bank Co-Chair, so feel free to reach out any time if you have any questions about NAIMUN or Georgetown in general!


Committee speaker

Nancy Lee is a senior policy fellow and Director for Sustainable Development Finance at the Center for Global Development and a senior advisor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Her work focuses on multilateral development banks and development finance institutions, mobilizing private development finance, blended finance, sovereign debt restructuring, public-private infrastructure finance, and gender-lens investing. Previously, she served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, an independent U.S. aid agency that fights poverty through country-owned compacts supporting inclusive growth.

Prior to MCC, Dr. Lee was General Manager (CEO) of the Multilateral Investment Fund at the Inter-American Development Bank, where she led initiatives in women-owned SME finance, youth job training partnerships, social impact bonds, climate finance, and crowdsourced development solutions. She also served at the U.S. Treasury Department as Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere and for Europe and Eurasia, leading efforts to advance financial inclusion, SME finance, and women’s access to finance on the G20 agenda. Dr. Lee is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and holds a PhD and MA in economics from Tufts University and a BA in economics from Wellesley College.
